Detroit Michigan Coffee Roasters is home to a growing number of coffee shops that roast their own beans on site vs. purchasing them pre-roasted from wholesalers. This is great news for coffee drinkers and for those who love to roast their own beans at home.

A local favorite is the Leelanau County Coffee Roasters, with locations in Traverse City and Leelanau Township. This shop is a great place to sit and sip a cup of coffee, grab a muffin or treat, and catch up with friends. Often, the locals are there to chat and they are also happy to provide a friendly face and helpful advice for visitors!

Behind the Beans: The Passion Driving Sabbath Coffee Roasters

The Fortunate Coffee Company in Traverse City is the current iteration of what many folks came to know as BLK MRKT Coffee, Chuck Korson’s beloved roaster. This is a socially conscious and community-centric coffee shop that advocates for the mental health of veterans and military service members.

This is a fairly new small-batch roaster, located in an old house on the corner of 12 Mile and Cumberland. The owners, Trevor and Miranda Graham, are passionate about their craft and take special care in selecting the best beans to roast. They serve espresso and pastries, plus whole beans to take home.

This is a large, spacious coffee roaster with multiple seating areas and an upstairs loft. They roast their own beans in small batches, allowing for the freshest cup possible. They are open a few days a week, but you can contact them to set up an appointment outside of their regular hours to pick up a bag of fresh-roasted beans!
