This article presents data on long-term TT prescribing trends in a mid-sized Canadian province with stable population growth over the past decade, captured by a provincial pharmacy drug monitoring program that includes every TT prescription and refill written. Using this unique database, we can characterize the rate of prescriptions and compare them to U.S. prescription rates, as well as examine the prescribing habits of PCPs (e.g., the proportion of TT prescriptions for oral vs. injectable esters or gel-based formulations). We find that despite the 2014 warning from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Health Canada, TT prescriptions continued to increase steadily until 2014 and then either stabilized or decreased.
